Lucius Boykins was born in Dallas County, AL. He, along with his family, moved to Pensacola around 1893. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Spanish American War and served aboard USS Powhatan. He was honorably discharged at the war's conclusion. He was an active member of the Deep Water City Elks Lodge. He was Escambia County's first black Truant officer, serving in this capacity while Dr. Vernon McDaniel was principal of Washington High School. He spent some 30 years in NY, Michigan, and Illinois before returning to Pensacola around 1940.
