Richard Lee Poffenberger, of Mesquite, Texas, died Thursday, August 19, 1999, a gentle, loving husband, he was born December 9, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan. Capt. Poffenberger, USNR, Ret., served his country for 30 years as a Naval Aviator participating in the Cuban Missile Crisis and three tours in the Vietnem War. In civilian life, Rick was with the U.S. Department of Labor, OWCP for 28 plus years. Rick was an avid tennis player and thoroughly enjoyed life until cancer overwhelmed him. Richard was preceded in death by his son, Curtis. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Virginia "Ginger" McMillan Poffenberger; son, Richard Alan "Rap" Poffenberger; daughter, Virginia "Ginny" Poffenberger all of Mesquite, Texas; sister, Betty Radwin of Boerne, TX and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Mass will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, August 23, 1999 at St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church, Garland, TX with Rev. James Sharp, Celebrant. Graveside services with military honors will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, August 25, 1999 at St. John's Cemetery, Pensacola. In lieu of flowers, for those so wishing, the family requests donations be made to United Cerebral Palsy or other charity of choice. Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel is in charge of arrangements. | |
