Thomas G. Van Matre, Sr., 84, of Pensacola died Tuesday, April 2, 1996.  Mr. Van Matre was a native and lifelong resident of Pensacola.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and retired from the U.S. Customs after 32 years of employment.  Mr. Van Matre was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a Master Mason of Escambia Lodge #15.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mildred Lucile Sloari Van Matre; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Jackie Van Matre; three grandchildren, Jason, Ashley and Mike; two sisters, Doris Solan and Helen Chavers.  Funeral services will be at 10 am Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Victor Schulz officiating.  Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Ray Averill, Ronnie Chavers, Ronnie Busbee, Charles Solari, Jr., Scott Van Matre and Donnie Stephenson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Roeben, Joe Averill, Mike Cascone, Charles Solari, Sr., Bill Fay, Louis Solari, Harold Chavers, Bob Brown, Arthur Thorsen and Michael T. Thorsen.  Harper-Morris is in charge of arrangements.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 7 Friday.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Hospice of Northeast Florida.
