Carolyn Margaret Welles, 1910-2001, daughter of Flossie and Frank E. Welles was born in Pensacola on May 14, 1910.  She was a third generation Floridian.  Miss Welles attended Florida State College for Women, and was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority.  After graduation in 1931, she returned to Pensacola and taught at A.K. Suter Elementary School.  A lifelong member of Gadsden Street United Methodist Church, she was active in the Alter Guild, the Mary Martha Sunday School Class, and had taught Sunday School for many years.  During her life, Miss Welles had served the Pensacola Community and hospitals as a volunteer.  She loved the beauty of nature, and created and nurtured many beautiful gardens.  Miss Welles was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Thomas E. Welles and Frank E. Welles, and sister Doris Curtis.  She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Jenna Welles Lane, Shirley Welles Ritchie, Alden Curtis Jacobus, Patricia Curtis Goodgame, Margaret Curtis Giesenschlag, Jeanie Welles Bettcher, Janice Welles Cory, Thomas Welles, Andy Welles, and Frank Welles; fourteen Great Nieces and Nephews; eleven great great Nieces and Nephews, cousins and many friends.  A private graveside service will be held with the Reverend Dan Rhodes and Jim Hanson, officiating.  Harper Morris Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 19, 2001 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Azalea Trace Assisted Living Facility, 10100 Hillview Road.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Gadsden Street United Methodist Church or to the Azalea Trace Heritage Foundation.
