Louis Golay Thorsen, 73, of San Antonio, TX passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2011. Louis was born on October 28th, 1937 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola Florida. He was sixth of seven children. He went to St Michael's through 8th grade. He graduated from Catholic High and went to Alabama Polytechnic Institute (API) in Auburn, AL. After graduating, he taught math at Catholic High. He married Dorothy Griffin in August 1961, with whom he had 5 children. They divorced in February 1973. He married Maria Christina Valadoa in January 1975 to whom he was married at the time of his death. He began his work career as a math teacher at Catholic High in Pensacola, where he taught for 3 years, where he helped his students achieve academic success. He began his career as a cartographer at the Inter American Geodetic Survey (IAGS) in Curundu Canal Zone, Panama, in July 1963, working for the US government. Over the years, he held many different positions within the agency and excelled at every job, receiving many superior performance awards for his excellent supervisory and management skills. He retired in 2006. Louis enjoyed playing basketball, tennis, and various card games. He also loved to sew. He would be the first to dance at family get togethers, and enjoyed teasing and joking with his family and loved to give and receive hugs. He will be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents Rachel (Quina) and Henry Bredal Thorsen. He is survived by wife, Maria Christina Thorsen, San Antonio, TX; daughter, Natalie Bryan, Gresham, OR; son, Louis Thorsen Jr, Edison, NJ; daughter, Rachel Lisa Thorsen, Somerset, NJ; daughter, AnneMarie Thorsen Moe, Saylorsburg PA, daughter, Kristen Thorsen, Gresham, OR; brother, Father Henry B. Thorsen, Pensacola; sister Rose Mary Thorsen Wilcox, Pensacola; sister, Annie Elizabeth Thorsen Klipp, Pensacola; brother, Gregory Q Thorsen, Milton FL; brother James Albert Thorsen, Milton FL; brother John A Thorsen, Pensacola, 13 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am Monday. October 24, 2011 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 3131 Hyde Park Rd., Pensacola, FL with Father Henry Thorsen celebrant. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. A reception will follow the graveside service at St. Paul Catholic Church. The Rosary will be prayed at 5:00pm Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel followed by a visitation until 7:00pm. Active Pallbearers will be Gregory Q Thorsen, Johnny Thorsen, Butch Thorsen, Chuck Wilcox, Tim Thorsen, Thor H Thorsen, Gregory B Thorsen, and Thor N. Thorsen. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jimmy Thorsen, Tom Klipp, Gary Thorsen, & Michael Thorsen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the Humane Society of Pensacola, 5 N.
