Arthur T. "Mac" McGill, Jr., 90, of Pensacola, FL died on Sunday, February 17, 2013. He was born on August 31, 1922 in Bay Minette, AL, grew up in Perdido, AL and was a graduate of Baldwin County High School (class of 56 members). Arthur has been a resident of Pensacola since January 1946. He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Rita Rosina Borras McGill and his parents, Arthur T. McGill, Sr. and Mollie Stanton McGill. Arthur was proud of being part of the Greatest Generation and liked to tell stories of growing up during the depression, fishing stories and WWII experiences. He was employed by the Naval Hospital, Pensacola from January 1946 as the Administrative Assistant until retirement in 1977. He also held the position of Associate with Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel from 1978-2005. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Krewe of Lafitte, Karnival Kavaliers, Loyal Order of Moose Chapter 557, former member of the Navy League and was a charter member of the American Legion Post 240. Arthur was a US Navy veteran serving three continuous years in the South Pacific during WWII. He was a recipient of the following medals and awards: Asiatic Pacific Campaign, Commendation, American Defense Victory Medal WWII and Good Conduct Medal. He participated in the Emerald Coast Honor Flight in 2008 to see the WWII National Memorial and was deeply moved by the event, the reception received in Washington DC and the homecoming reception received at Pensacola Airport. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lexie M. Thorsen (Dennis); brother and sister-in-law, Terre D. McGill (Clair) of Atmore, AL; cousins and many friends. Visitation will be held 10:30am until the Funeral Service to begin at 11:30am Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Pastor Randy Blankschaen officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be the staff of Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Bracken, Louis Boudreaux, Lawrence Jones, Frank Pilcher, Howard Pilcher and Hubie Williford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund, PO BOX 12912, Pensacola, FL 32591-2912 or to a charity of choice .
