In the late 1970s, Gus relocated to Naples, FL and was a member in the law firm of Catalano & Fisher, and later, Bond Schoeneck and King. Though he retired from the practice of law in the 1990s, he continued his long time membership in the Florida Bar Real Estate Section, in which he had served in leadership roles during his career.Gus was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was member of the Prairie Creek Hunting Club, an elite band of brothers based in Arcadia Florida. He was also a spicy-food aficionado. His friends and family have reminders of his love for heat in their cupboards in the form of travel-size Tabasco bottles and homemade Tony's seasoning salt. Gus loved the University of Florida, the Gators and the State of Florida. He was a relative of the Gonzalez family who received an original land grant from Spain. But mostly, Gus liked to knock back a few, pull out his guitar and sing "Open up your gullet for a big juicy mullet."
