From his obituary, he was a veteran of the Indian War. He served three years in the Indian Wars in California and Mexico from 1867 to 1870.  Jerome Butler worked for the C.B. & Q. Railroad and moved to Pensacola in 1903.  Jerome Butler married Bertha Knoll. Their known children: John Reagan Butler (1893-1896), and Ethel I. Butler (1892; married Charles H. Wheat). Jerome Butler died November 11, 1941. From Fisher Pou records, Jerome’s father was Josia Butler and his mother was Eliza Ann. From his obituary from paper: “survivors : two sons, H.E. Butler of Mississippi, W.J. Butler of Texas; four daughters: Mrs. Charles Wheat, Mrs. Irene Abbott, Mrs. Lois Whitwell, all of Pensacola, and Mrs. Alice Kendrick of Miami; brother B.F. Butler of Pensacola…a veteran of the Indian War.” Daughter Ethel I. Butler married Charles Hayden Wheat, and buried in St. John’s Cemetery. Jerome Butler is buried next to his wife Bertha Knoll Butler in the C.T. Cronise family plot.
