Pensacola - Malcolm Kenneth "Ken" Pfeiffer died peacefully on October 28, 2018, surrounded by his family in Gainesville, Florida, at the age of 90.

Ken was born in Pensacola on July 9, 1928 to Everett and Eula Mae Pfeiffer. Ken was a lifelong and devoted Pensacola resident, businessman and community leader, leaving only to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville where he obtained his degree in Pharmacy in 1950, and returning to Gainesville to be with his daughter Martha and her family for the last few years of his life.

Ken married Hazel Smith on April 8, 1948. They were married for 57 years until Hazel's death on February 3, 2005. Ken and Hazel had two daughters, Wilda K. Mohr and Martha C. "Marty" Siegel, Gainesville, Florida. Wilda also preceded Ken in death on March 12, 2003.

In 1953 Ken completed his service as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army and returned to Pensacola where he and Hazel opened Pfeiffer Drugs, which continued as a thriving business for over 60 years. Ken was first appointed to the Florida State Board of Pharmacy in January, 1962, and served on that Board continuously for 25 years, having been appointed by 5 different Florida Governors. When he retired from the Pharmacy Board in September, 1987, Ken was given the honorary title of, "Permanent Chairman".

Ken was also a Founding Director and original shareholder of First American Bank in Pensacola, and served on the Board of that bank for many years of successful operation until it was eventually acquired by Compass Bank. Thereafter, Ken continued to serve on the Compass Bank Pensacola Board for many more years.

In addition to his daughter Martha and son-in-law Brent G. Siegel, Ken is survived by four grandchildren, who he fondly referred to as the "pride of my life": Kenneth F. Mohr, Taylor B. Siegel, Eric M. Siegel and Jacquelyn "Jackie" Blaine Siegel. Ken is also survived by his sister, Lauretta Austin and her husband, Ben, of Pensacola, as well as his sister-in-law, Gwen Pfeiffer. Two other brothers, Ted (Barbara) and Jim (Gwen) Pfeiffer, also preceded Ken in death.

Ken was an accomplished golfer, serving terms as President of both the Scenic Hills and Pensacola Country Clubs. He loved hunting and fishing and was an avid Florida Gator football fan.

The family will receive visitors in the living room at Lee House, 400 Bay Front Parkway, Pensacola, from 4:30-6:30 pm on Wednesday, October 31. The Funeral Service will be held at First Baptist Church, Pleitz Chapel, 500 N. Palafox Street, at 10:30 am on Thursday, November 1st.
