On September 2nd, 2013, our dear brother, John Victor Bokas, 79, fell asleep in the Lord. John was born August 9th, 1934 in Pensacola, Florida to Xanthe and Victor Bokas. He was the youngest of their three sons.



John graduated from Pensacola High School in 1952. After graduation, he attended Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, MA. While in theology school, John was drafted by the Army and served two years. After serving in the Army, John attended and graduated from the University of Alabama, with a Bachelors of Arts in Education. John started his teaching career at Brownsville Junior High in Pensacola, FL where he taught History. In 1963 John moved to Boston to work for Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology as an administrative assistant. He loved living in Boston and took a teaching position with North Quincy High School. John enjoyed teaching World History for twenty-five years at North Quincy High School, and was honored with the Teacher of the Year Award. John was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of New England in Boston, MA.



John Bokas was preceded in death by his loving parents Xanthe and Victor Bokas. John is survived by his brothers, Fotios Vic Bokas and George (Aspasia) Bokas, a niece Sonthe (Greg) Burge, nephew Victor Bokas, great nephews Ryan Burge, Paul (Katie) Burge, and great niece Sophia Burge. 



The visitation will be held at Waters & Hibbert Funeral Home on Friday, September 6th from 5 to 7 pm with the Trisagion Service at 6:30pm.



The funeral service will be held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1720 West Garden Street, Pensacola, FL 32501 at 11am, Saturday, September 7th. The burial will follow the service at St. John's Cemetery. Presiding at the funeral will be Fr. Matthew Carter, Fr. Dean Gigicos and Fr. David Bleam. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1720 West Garden Street, Pensacola, FL 32501.



Active pallbearers include Ryan Burge, Paul Burge, Tom Poulos, Gary Tringas, Greg Young, Richard Russell. Honorary pallbearers include Andy Nadeau, Dr. Miltiades Karamechedis, Dr. Richard Chrystal, Michael Stamitoles, George Apostle, Tom Psaltis, Bill Turner, Dr. Allan Ford, Anthony Tampary, Sr., Ellis Story and Jerry Hayes.
