Elizabeth "Betty" Weiss Welles, a native of Mobile, Alabama and longtime resident of Pensacola, Florida passed from this life on June 01, 2013 at Baptist Hospital after a brief illness.

Betty was the eldest daughter of George Evans Weiss, Sr. and Ruth Spottswood Weiss. She was a graduate of Murphy High School and attended the University of Montevallo, where she studied archeology. Betty then went to work at the Mobile County Tax Assessor's Office, where she worked as secretary for Julian S. Sossaman, who became a lifelong friend and devoted godfather to her children. 

Mrs. Welles was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Everett Welles, Jr. She was the mother of three daughters, Valerie Paige Smith (deceased), Elizabeth Anne Welles and Melanie Boyer Welles (deceased). She is survived by two step-daughters, Jenna Welles Lane and Shirley Welles Ritchie.

Betty is survived by three siblings, George Evans Weiss, Jr., Norborne Victor Weiss and Kathryn Weiss Montgomery. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Ruth Ann Donovon. She is survived by two nieces, Joy Montgomery McGough and Maureen Donovon, and one nephew, David Weiss Montgomery.

Mrs. Welles was a dedicated member of St. John's Episcopal Church. She enjoyed being a member of the Pensacola Country Club, the Pensacola Yacht Club and the Mobile Bienville Club. Mrs. Welles was a devoted wife, a loving mother, sister and aunt, and a loyal friend to many. Her compassion, thoughtfulness and generosity were a blessing to all who knew her. Her bright thoughtfulness and generosity were a blessing to all who knew her. Her bright blue eyes, beautiful smile, delightful wit and humor, eternal optimism, charm and graciousness were lovely to behold. She will be remembered dearly and often.

Private family services were held at St. Johns Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Hospital Health Care Foundation or the Daily Word.
