George Edgar Wentworth was born March 14. 1842 in Alstead, NH and died October 14, 1881, in Pensacola, FL.  He married Susan Weatherbee Parker, daughter of Hiram S. and Nancy (Leavitt ) Parker.  She was born in Lowell, MA November 24, 1841.  George and Susan were married March 19, 1864 in Lowell, MA.

George Wentworth was a scholar at the Franklin School in Lowell, MA.  Enlisting as a private in the 30th Mass. Reg., he was appointed the the Lieut. Colonelcy of the 88th U. S. Colored Reg., which position he honored with his high courage as an officer and warm hearted humanity.  He was severely wounded and carried to his grave one bullet which could not be extracted.  He was a most efficient soldier and he won the confidence of his superiors.  He was offered a captaincy, which he declined.  He was a gentleman of refined manners and considerable culture of mind and heart and was a public spirited citizen.  He was a Collector of Internal Revenue and Clerk of the U. S. Courts at Pensacola, FL at the time of his death, October 14, 1881.  He is buried in St. John's Cemetery, Pensacola, FL.  Mrs. Wentworth resides in Pensacola,
