Gladys Butler Painter, a Pensacola native, born in March 1930, left to go be with her Father on August 8, 2026, at the age of 96. She was with family members holding her hands as she left this world. Gladys will be dearly missed.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mabel Butler; two sisters, Louise Trawick and Edna Martin; a brother, Frank Butler; and her grandson, Sheldon Freeman.
Gladys is survived by her three children, Richard Freeman, Michael Freeman and Kathy Augustine; one granddaughter and one grandson, along with seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Barbara Stephens and Jean Clopton, and many nieces and nephews.
A talented visual and musical artist, culinary crafter, and real estate investor, she always found a way to express her individual interpretation of the subject matter almost to the very last of her time on earth. She was involved in several real estate projects, but the restoration of 420 North 14th Avenue, built in the 1800's, was saved by her and her son Michael's efforts after a demolition permit had been issued. Kudos to her for her aspiration and determination to make a difference tor others, even when they did not know it. Gladys did what she intended to do.
Funeral Service will be Friday, August 21, 2026, at 10:30 AM, at Faith Chapel Funeral South. Visitation will be one hour prior at 9:30 AM. Pastor Jacque Boone will be officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.
