Joseph Stephen Bauman passed away peacefully on January 9, 2015. Joseph was a native of Pensacola, Florida, and graduated from Pensacola High School in 1954. He continued his education at Auburn University and graduated in 1959 majoring in Interior Design with minors in Architecture and Marketing. Joseph moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, and became an international fine china and sliver buyer for D.H. Holmes Company, formerly located on Canal Street in New Orleans. He was the first buyer to travel to foreign countries for D.H. Holmes and traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Far East, including China when trade was first opened to the U.S. market. When D.H. Holmes Company closed, Joseph worked for Adler's on Canal Street in New Orleans until he retired. Throughout his career, Joseph was active in the National Society of Interior Design and America Institute of Designs.

Upon Joseph's retirement, he returned to his home town Pensacola. During his free time, Joseph enjoyed caring for his Scottish Terriers, cooking New Orleans cuisine, working in his garden, and entertaining family and friends, especially at Christmas time. Joseph loved animals and over the years cared for a number of Scottish Terriers, which he considered his children.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Steve and Anna Mae Bauman; and his sisters Ora, Nancy, and Violeta Bauman. Joseph will be greatly missed by his surviving relatives and friends including his sister Patsy, niece Catherine, nephew Jeffery, cousins, and dear friend Esther Lee.

The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to select staff of the Consulate Health Care of Pensacola for the tender care of Joseph during the last years of his life and Joyce Goldenberg Covenant Hospice for the tender care during the last days of his life.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015, starting at 12:30 p.m. with a memorial service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel located at 3351 Scenic Highway, Pensacola, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of his life to the Humane Society of Pensacola.
