Dorothy Ellen Standley, 95, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016. She was born on February 27, 1920 in Kansas City, MO, although the family moved to Philadelphia, PA soon after and made their home in Dallas, TX ever since.

She graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel Academy in Dallas then entered TCU (Texas Christian University) in Ft. Worth, TX. She transferred and graduated from Our Lady of Victory College in Ft. Worth, TX. in 1940.

She was a child of the Great Depression and a member of the "Greatest Generation."

She met and married her future husband in Dallas in 1943.
When her only child left for college, she returned to her original skill and worked at Sacred Heart Hospital here in Pensacola for 26 years until retirement.

After the death of her husband in 1982 she undertook many classes from UWF and (then) PJC, studying the many subjects that found her interest including 10 years of art classes. One of her “star" achievements was a hole-in-one in golf. Many, many tasks accomplished in needlework.

She was a lifelong Catholic and was a member of Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Pensacola.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Bruce and Isabella Nichols; brother, Fred Nichols; sisters, Katherine Dolan, Mary Ann Einhaus and Norma McClay all in Dallas.

She is survived by one son, Bryan Standley, Jr. and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 5-7pm Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Friday, February 19, 2016 at Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with Fr. Joe Callipare celebrant. Burial will be in the family plot in St. John's Cemetery following the Mass.
