Pensacola - Edward H Scheye Jr., son of Edward and Johanna Scheye, departed earthly life on June 25, 2021; he was 82 years old. Ed enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage with Norma Madsen Scheye. Together they reared four children: Deborah with her husband Jim Lenceski, Steve with wife Gracie, Karen with husband France Dorman, and Jim with husband Justin Smith. Ed also proudly enjoyed seven grandchildren (Kent, Sarah, Bryce, and Emily Lenceski; Carly Scheye Hendrickson and Cristi Scheye Grover; and Dana Dorman). In his later years, Ed welcomed two great grandchildren - Lily and Walter Lenceski.

Ed served our Nation in the Armed Forces for over 43 years. First as a Marine and then in the Navy in both active and reserve roles, retiring as a Commander. In civilian life, Ed worked for the Chief of Naval Education and Training, managing training programs across the country. Here, they greatly accelerated education rates, improved instruction and retention, and bettered the readiness of our Navy.

Ed served our community in Scouting and Master Gardeners and demonstrated charity by helping those in need as a Kiwanian and as member of the Advisory Board at the Pensacola Chapter of the Salvation Army. He was an active member of the Masons (Brother) and Scottish Rite, attaining 32nd Degree/ Knight's Commander, Court of Honor. His family warmly remembers many times when Ed hosted young sailors who were away from home for the first time to holiday dinners.

Ed will be remembered as voracious reader, teller of tales, and 'holding court' with friends and neighbors in the garage. He always appreciated being consulted on repair projects. He was a crusty Navy man who loved cats.

His family will hold a public memorial and celebration of his life on July 22, 2021 at 2:30 pm at the Pensacola Masonic Center, 189 W. Airport Blvd, Pensacola, FL. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Salvation Army.

Trahan Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
