Montez Brown Robertson, 99, beloved teacher, poet and long time Sunday School teacher, passed away on December 10, 2014.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Joe Robertson.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Valine Gilmore; her nieces, Linda Cooper and Sandra Johnson and their families, along with her cousin, Darlene Mihelcic.

Montez graduated from Blue Mountain College for Women in 1937, and immediately began her teaching career. She taught in Blue Mountain, MS before moving with her husband to Pensacola. She taught at Pensacola High School and various other schools in Pensacola and throughout the state. They eventually were transferred back to Pensacola where they both retired.

As an educator, she loved history and literature, especially poetry, and could recite difficult pieces of poetry until her death. She impacted the lives of thousands of students in her forty years of faithful service.

Her teaching also included many years of teaching children at First Baptist Church in Pensacola, where she was the oldest living member.

She lived at the Haven of Our Lady of Peace since 2012 and was most appreciative of their care and kindness.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00pm, Tuesday, December 16, 2014 in Pleitz Chapel, First Baptist Church, with Dr. Barry Howard officiating. Visitation will be one-half hour prior to the service.
