Anthony Eugene MacWhinnie, II, 53, of Pensacola, FL passed away Monday, February 6, 2023.

Anthony was born on November 24, 1969, in Pensacola, FL to Susan Shows MacWhinnie and Anthony Eugene MacWhinnie. Anthony attended the University of West Florida. His first career was as a fisheries biologist working as a port sampler with commercial fishermen until one day, he realized he loved the people even more than the fish, if that was possible, and he went to the Seminary of the Southwest and became an Episcopal Priest. Saint Monica’s Episcopal Church in Cantonment supported his ordination process, and they became his parish for the last 8 years.

Anthony was a renaissance man if ever there was one. He loved fishing, hunting, cooking, gardening, playing bass in the band Alcaniz, backpacking, making beer, and more. However, what he loved most was spending time with his family.

Anthony is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Anagnostis MacWhinnie; children, Trey and Ruby MacWhinnie; as well as so many friends and extended family.

Funeral Service will be held 1:00pm Friday, February 10, 2023, at Christ Episcopal Church, 18 W. Wright St., Pensacola, FL 32501, with The Right Reverend J. Russell Kendrick officiating. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, 301 N. G St., Pensacola, FL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Monica’s Episcopal Church, 699 S. Hwy 95, Cantonment, FL 32533.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the CCU staff at West Florida Hospital for their wonderful care of Anthony and his family.
