George Gassman was born January 16, 1820 in Eufort, Germany. He was a Sergeant, U.S.M.. In Escambia County on June 12, 1870, he married Miss Lucretia Lewis. George and Lucretia are listed in the 1880 census living in the Woolsey area with their four known children: Ida (1872-1956; married Charles VanMatre), Frank (b.ca1873 FL), and twins Elizabeth (b.ca1878 FL) and Joseph Gassman (b.ca 1878 FL). George Gassman died December 8, 1899. He is buried next to his wife, daughter Ida May VanMatre and her husband Charles G. VanMatre Sr., son Franklin Gassman, son Joseph Gassman, and Ernestine VanMatre. There is a wood cross on this lot as a marker. | |
