Blanche Sheppard Groh, 93, of Pensacola died Wednesday, May 4, 1994 in a local hospital following a short and unexpected illness.  Born in Pensacola November 21, 1900, Mrs. Groh was the last surviving member of the Edward Sheppard family.  Blanche lived in Pensacola until she joined the "Yeomanettes", a U.S. Navy Womens' Auxiliary in World War I.  She served in Washington, D.C. Returning to Pensacola at the completion of her wartime service, she met her future husband, Ensign George Richard Groh.  Ensign Groh was a native to Terra Haute, IN, and was unergoing flight training to be one of the Navy's pioneer Naval Aviators.  They were married in 1919, after his return from duty in Europe.  Following his assignments, Mrs. Groh traveled and lived the length and breadth of the United States.  After his death in 1944, she returned to Pensacola to live first in Warrington and later in East Hill.  Her daughter's marriage to another Navy man took Mrs. Groh to more places in the United States and on to Europe.  She lived for short periods in France, England and Spain.  It was in Spain that she acquired "Cholo," her pet poodle and faithful companion for the last 16 years.  She lost her dear "Cholo" last month.  To the end, despite her aging, she loved and lived life to the fullest.  She looked forward to her weekly trips to her hair dresser, Richard--her favorite restaurant, the Red Lobster; and to her daily one martini.  Everyone knew her a a "beautiful person, a true lady."  Blanche was a past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Silver Strand Chapter, in San Diego.  In the 1950s, she worked as the manager of the late Dominick Rand enterprises.  In the 1960s, she owned and operated Bell's Children Specialty Shop located in the San Carlos Hotel.  She was an early member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.  She is survived by her only child, a daughter, Emilie Ann Carlin, and her three granddaughters, Leslie Ann, Patricia Helen and Deborah Groh Carlin.  A memorial service will be 12 p.m. (noon)  Wednesday, May 11, at Fisher-Pou Funeral Home with Father Thomas A. Bonanti of the Cathedral of Sacred Heart officiating.  Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.  Fisher-Pou Funeral Service, 27 East Wright Street, is in charge of arrangements.
