Marion Howe, a descendant of Manuel Gonzalez, was born in Pensacola in 1910 and grew up on the family land along Escambia Bay. She attended Pensacola Schools and Visitation Academy in Mobile. She was a self-taught artist, according to her sister-in-law, Irene Howe, and probably had her first formal lessons in the WPA Federal Art Institute in Pensacola during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Her work received an award from the Florida Federation of Artists, the National League of American Pen Women, was exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts in Montgomery. During the 1930s and 1940s, she was employed in Pensacola as the Chief Deputy Clerk in the Federal Court District. She married Lt. Edgar J. Bryan, USNR in 1955. She died in 1960 and was buried in St. John�s Cemetery.
