John Whiting Hyer was born June 6, 1870 in Pensacola, the son of Wm K. Hyer and his wife Belle Abercrombie. He was a Army Captain during the Spanish-American War, and owner of J. Whiting Hyer Realty Company. John Whiting Hyer married Emma Turner. The three known children of John and Emma were: J. Whiting Hyer Jr. (buried 4-47), Em Turner Hyer (married E.S. Wallace (buried 4-47), and Margaret Hyer (1907-1992; married Jay L. Hall). The Hyer family were members of the Christ Episcopal Church. On June 19, 1957, at age 87, John Whiting Hyer died. He is buried next to his wife Emma Turner (one stone), daughter Margaret Hyer Hall and her husband Jay Long Hall, and Jane Hyer.
