Winnifred "Winnie" H. Merritt, 75, of Pensacola, died Monday.  Mrs. Merritt was a retired school teacher.  She had a bachelor's degree from the University of West Florida, having been in the first graduating class with two masters's degrees from there.  She was the Curiculum Coordinator at Montclair School.  Mrs. Merritt was a member of the First Presbyterian Church; past president of the PEO Sisterhood; a volunteer at Baptist Hospital; a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy; member of Pensacola Historical Society; the Women's Board of Baptist Health Care Foundation; the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century; the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution; National Society of the United States Daughters of 1812; charter life member of the University of Florida National Alumni Association; and the University of West Florida Alumni Council.  Survivors include her husband, Charles W. Merritt; four sisters, Janice Wright of Grosse Point, MI, Louise Horne, Lois Kemp and Suzanne Yarbrough, all of Pensacola; a brother, Frank S. Horne; and several nieces and nephews.  Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. W. Rush Otey III and the Rev. H. R. Whiddon officiating.  Private burial will be in St. John's Cemetery preceding the memorial service.  Waters and Hibbert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Baptist Health Care Foundation,  Pensacola Historical Society or a charity of your choice.
