John Thomas Murphy died May 24, 1965. From Journal Tuesday May 25: “J.P. (Pat) Murphy… died Monday…native of Philadelphia, PA…resident in Pensacola since 1927...11 years chairman and member of the Pensacola Port Authority, manager of Kerr-McGee Oil Industries, Vice President of Escambia Farmers Supply Company and former manager of Southern Cotton Oil Company... survivors: widow Mrs. Emily Beggs Murphy; his mother Mrs. J.F. Murphy and two sisters, Mrs. E.J. Fogarty and Miss Katie Murphy, all of Savannah…Fisher-Pou directing.” He is buried next to his wife Emily Beggs Murphy in the E.D. Beggs family plot.
