Miss Sophie Elizabeth Pfeiffer, age 95, departed this life on Thursday, November 28, 2013. Known as Elizabeth to her Pensacola relatives and Susie to those she worked with in the Supply Department at NAS Pensacola, she was born on June 21, 1918, the youngest of the seven children of Emil Ernest and Sophie Grueninger Pfeiffer. Her first home was Pfeiffer's Bakery, on Intendencia Street in downtown Pensacola, where the family lived on the second floor above the bakery shop. When she was fifteen the family moved to a new home in North Hill, where she resided until entering a nursing home in 2004. She was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a graduate of Pensacola High School. She was employed in a secretarial capacity for several local businesses before she gained employment at NAS Pensacola, where she rose to a high-level position in the Supply Department. She never married, but was a "second mother" to her Pensacola nieces and nephews. She was an excellent baker and was well known among family, friends and co-workers for her pound cake jelly roll and fruitcake. She also loved growing flowers, especially African violets, and was skilled at flower arranging. She loved animals, especially dogs; her dogs were family members to her.

Miss Pfeiffer was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, John, Albert, Harry, Emil and Reinhardt; her sister, Louise Pfeiffer Dixon and her nephews, Albert Pfeiffer Jr., John Frederic Pfeiffer and Grady Dixon.

She is survived by her nephew, Ernest Dixon (Wanda) of Pensacola; her nieces, Joann Pfeiffer Durkowski of Virginia Beach, Nona Dixon Schipull (Doug) of Chicago and Lois Dixon of Pensacola and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 24 W. Wright St., with visitation beginning at 1:00pm. Miss Pfeiffer will be buried in the Pfeiffer family plot at St. John's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Bethesda Lutheran Home, the Lutheran Hour radio broadcast ministry or an animal shelter of your choice.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wilfred Schrader and Rev. Victor Schulz.

The family would like to thank the staff of Homestead Village and the nurses from Covenant Hospice for the care and kindness they showed to Miss Pfeiffer during her stay there, especially during her last days.
