William Bell Runyan was born May 22, 1836 in Escambia County, one of three children born to Amos H. and Anna (Bell) Runyan.  He was a local merchant and a Confederate veteran.  In Escambia County on May 19, 1869, William Runyan married Clarine Golay.  They moved to Geneva, Alabama for about eight years, returning to Pensacola in 1880, purchasing the Caro home on Bayou Chico.  William and Clarine Runyan were the parents of five children: Albert Harkley, Manuel Gonzalez, William Bell Runyan Jr., Anna Rebecca , and Amos Golay Runyan.  William Bell Runyan died July 5, 1894, buried next to his wife Clarine Golay Runyan, daughter Anna Runyan Barnes, and son Manuel “Manny” Gonzalez Runyan in the Runyan family plot.
