Diris Marie Merritt Dixon, 1916-2005, 88, of Pensacola, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 10, 2005 with her dog "Molly" at her side.  She was born May 14, 1916 to Robert and Lavatus Merritt.  She had resided in Pensacola all her life.  Her great-grandfather donated the land to start Olive Baptist Church.  Her father was owner of Merritt Cleaners for many years before serving his community in Washington, DC.  Graduating from Pensacola High School, she worked in dispersing at the Naval Air Station.  Doris married her High School, John C. Dixon on September 2, 1939.  She was a member of First Baptist Church for over 83 years and taught in the beginner 5A Sunday School Department for over 20 years.  Doris left lasting impressions with everyone she met.  There was always a smile on her face and love in her heart.  She was a kind, caring and thoughtful person who loved her family.  Her husband of 57 years, John C. Dixon; a grandson, John Jamison Gothard; two sisters, Dorothy Warthen and Modeste Barry and a brother-in-law, Aubrey Barry preceded her in death.  Doris leaves behind two daughters, Dixiana (Don) Bray and Linda (Bill) Sharp; three grandchildren, Melanie (Danny) Deason, Don (Maria) Bray, Jr., and Douglass Bray; four great-grandchildren, Calvin Lee Deason and Caitlin, Donny and Emily Bray; one sister, Elsie (Jim) Peters of Sumpter, SC; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2006 at Pleitz Chapel, First Baptist Church of Pensacola with Rev. Ron Banta officiating.  Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.  Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.  A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2005 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Harper-Morris.  Active pallbearers will be Tom Holly, Archie Jones, Tom Coyne, Jim Larkins, Bill Roloph and Daffin Kee.  Honorary pallbearers will be Horace Turner, Tom Threadgill, Jere French, Al Glass, Dr. Bill Hamlin, Dr. Andy Somesan, Frank Matteson, Jimmie Dixon, Dr. Jim Pleitz and Cecil Powell.  For those who prefer, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International or St. Jude's Childrens Hospital.
