~~JOHN KAHL EDWARDS, JR.1915-2007John Kahl Edwards, Jr., 91, of Pensacola, Florida passed away Monday evening at home surrounded by his family.John was born in his family home on 12th and Gadsden Street and spent his entire life devoted to Pensacola. John graduated from Pensacola High School in 1933 and began a career in the accounting field. John's accounting career spanned over 60 years with stops at Saltmarsh, Cleveland and Gund, The Pensacola Buggy Works and the Escambia County Comptroller's Office where he retired as the County Finance Officer in 1980. John maintained a private accounting practice at home until 2007. John was drafted in 1942 and served in the United States Navy during World War II; he was the first enlisted man assigned to Whiting Field and was deployed on the Island of Guam. John was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Pensacola since 1940; he was a member of the Heritage Club and a Deacon Emeritus. John was a member of the Scottish Rite, Demolay, Hadji Shriners, Masonic Order of Free Masons. He was a Charter member of the Pensacola Camellia Club, and was fondly known as "Mr. Camellia".Preceding John in death was his father, John K. Edwards, Sr., his mother Gertrude P. Edwards, his brothers Thomas W.E. (Bubba) Edwards and Harry P. Edwards and his son John K. Edwards, III.Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary Ellen Edwards; his son, Kahl (Pat) Edwards, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; daughter, Ellen (Mick) Milo, of Richmond, Virginia; daughter, Mary Kaye (Scott) Bell, of Pensacola; and son, John (Susan) Edwards, of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren, Stephanie and Michael Milo, Lindsey (Tommy) DeLaMare, Jeff Bell, Christopher Edwards, Zachary and Elizabeth Edwards; sisters-in-law, Frances Edwards and Jean Edwards Meenan; and numerous other family and friends.Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church Pensacola from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00noon on Friday, February 16, 2007 with the Funeral Service to follow immediately at 12:00noon in the Sanctuary. Graveside service will be held at St. John's Cemetery. Dr. Barry Howard will be officiating.Pallbearers will be Glen Strange, Tommy DeLaMare, Michael Milo, Jeff Bell, Christopher Edwards and Zachary Edwards. Honorary Pallbearers will be First Baptist Church Deacons, The Pensacola Camellia Club Members and John's Sunday School Class.In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church ROC (Recreation Outreach Center) Building Fund at, 500 North Palafox Street, Pensacola, 32501.HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
