Henry Newton Sherburne, 86, of Pensacola, died Thursday, March 18, 1999 at a local hospital. Newt was born on September 20, 1912 in Manila where his father was serving in the U.S. Cavalry. His youth was spent on several Army Posts where he and his three brothers became accomplished horsemen. He graduated from Purdue University in 1939 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He was General Foremen of the Campbell Soup Company in New York from 1939-1943; Staff Mgt. Eng. for Stevenson, Jordan and Harrison from 1943-1951; St. Regis Time Study Eng. from 1951-1962; Instructor at General Apprentice School at NASP in 1952. In 1953 he was Industrial Mgt. Officer of NASP and from 1954-1980 he was Division Director of Methods and Standards at NARF (Naval Aviation Rework Facility). He retired on December 31, 1980. Newt had been a resident of Pensacola since 1951. He was a devoted husband to his wife Millie. Their 61st Anniversary would have been on Sunday, March 28, 1999. Survivors include his wife, Mildred "Millie" Evelyn Wagoner; brother, James Sherburne of Lawrenceburg, KY, son Thomas N. Sherburne and wife Nancy of Falls Church, VA with their three children, Lias, Amy and Mark. He is also survived by his daughter, Susan S. Crittenden and husband Daniel of Plano, TX and their four children, Sara, Megan, Taylor and Hunter. He was proof that Angels do walk the earth. He was a kind and gentle man, loved by all and will be sorely missed by those who knew him. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. with visitation starting at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 27, 1999 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery on "G" Street. Bayview Fisher-Pou is in charge of arrangements. |
