Betty Chalk Putman was born on June 29, 1933, in Pensacola, FL and passed away on August 28, 2023, in Pensacola. She is predeceased by her husband, Dr. James H. Putman, M.D, her parents, Ernestine and Wesley Chalk, and a brother, William G. Chalk. Betty was a graduate of Pensacola High School and Charity School of Nursing in New Orleans, LA. She was employed as an RN at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL and Doctor's Hospital in Coral Gables, FL. While at Doctor's Hospital she was promoted to Assistant Director of Nursing, serving many years. After starting her family, she left nursing and pursued a career in Real Estate in order to be more available to her family. She enjoyed a successful career in Real Estate while working with the Dolores Eldridge Real Estate Agency in Coral Gables, FL. Betty was an avid volunteer during her lifetime. While residing in Coral Gables, she spent time with the Gilded Lilies and the Ladies Auxiliary of Doctor's Hospital. After her move to Pensacola, she delivered meals for the Council on Aging program Meals on Wheels, and participated in the Silver and Gold program at First United Methodist Church. During her retirement, Betty was able to follow her passion for traveling. She was able to visit many countries including England, Scotland, Italy, Russia, Denmark, Greece, Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Spain, and Portugal as well as the United States. Betty is survived by her three children, William Putman, Melissa Cox (Cory), Daniel Putman (Pennye); baby brother, Talis Wesley Chalk (Helen); a granddaughter, Pamela Buhler Cox (Corbitt); and niece Tina Chalk Longwell. Visitation will be 10:00am with a Memorial Service to begin at 11:00am Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Brandon Bures officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to either First United Methodist Church, 6 E.
