Albert Harkley Runyan was born April 24, 1870 in Escambia County, the oldest of five children born to William Bell Runyan and his wife Clarine Golay. He was a volunteer for the Escambia Rifle, a Florida State Troop, today known as the National Guards. Albert was a merchant, opening commissaries in Florida and Alabama. On June 29, 1898 in Escambia County, Albert Runyan married Ruth White. Born to Albert and Ruth Runyan were five daughters: Lucile, Dorothy, Louise, Clarine and Ruth Runyan. Albert Harkley Runyan died April 17, 1921, with his death notice in the Journal April 18. He was first buried next to his parents in St. John’s Cemetery, with his wife Ruth purchasing a large family plot on row 53, moving his casket and marker. He is buried next to his wife Ruth White Runyan, daughters Lucile White Runyan, Dorothy Runyan Thornton and her husband Haywood R. Thornton, Louise Runyan Barnes, Clarine Runyan Clark, Ruth Alberta Runyan, and granddaughter Ruth Thornton Rogers. |
