Robert Emmert Dean, 75, died very sudenly September 3, 1998, at his home in Pensacola, FL. He was preceded in death by his father, Col. Harold S. Dean and his mother, Ruth Alice Younger. Born September 28, 1922, in Kansas City, MO, and raised there, Mr. Dean joined the US Marine Corps in 1942. He served in the First Marine Air Wing as a fighter pilot in the South Pacific in WWII. He saw action at Guadalcanal, Munda, Raboul and Bougainville. He came to Pensacola in 1947 and was employed by the Gulf Power Company, retiring in 1968 after 39 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and for many years had been on the Church Council, Board of Elders and in the choir. Survivors include his wife of almost 33 years, Cynthia Green Dean; a son, Robert E. Dean, Jr, of Palmdale, CA; a daughter, Julie Gail Dean of Pensacola; brother, John Y. Dean of Pensacola; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, September 6, at 3:00 PM in the Immanuel Lutheran Church on West Wright Steeet with the Rev. Victor P. Schultz officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery with Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel directing. Pallbearers will be John Fitzgerald, Bob Purdy, Jim Loy, Bob Williams, Paul Merritt, Carl Ashby, Ben Kickliter, and Lyman Shivers. Honorary pallbearer, Aubrey Aldredge. Harper-Morris funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 6 PM on Saturday, September 5. |
