Cecil Harper, 75, of Oldsmar and Pensacola, died Sunday, January 7, 2001, at his home. He was born April 4, 1925 to Clifford and Mildred Harper. He graduated from Pensacola High School, joining the Navy afterwards and serving in active duty during WW II. A lifelong lover of horses, he was a former jockey and also served as State Steward for Calder Race Course and Tampa Bay Downs for many years. He us survived by his dog, Freckles; son, David Harper of San Diego, Calif.; daaughter, Sue Sapp of Brooksville, Fla., two grandsons, Joshua and J.J. Sapp; one sister, Margaret Pessley of Pensacola; one niece, one nephew and many cousins. Funeral services wil be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2001 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Pastor Shane Fickling officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Harper-Morris is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. | |
